How to Specify MDF/HDF Refiner Segments for Replacement Qualification
Separate part-definition inputs from process-performance inputs so the engineering review starts with a controlled, auditable specification.
Minimum specification structure
| Application identity | MDF/HDF application, equipment position, rotor/stator, private maker/model if available |
|---|---|
| Set definition | Segment quantity, layout, complete/partial set and direction |
| Mounting dimensions | OD, ID, thickness, bolt circle, holes, seating, keys/tabs and locating features |
| Pattern | Current pattern identification, bars/grooves/dams and direction where known |
| Material | Alloy family, hardness range, heat treatment and surface requirement if applicable |
| Inspection | Dimensional inspection, chemistry, hardness, traceability and first-article acceptance |
| Process context | Wood species, throughput, current wear mode and performance baseline only when needed for process comparison |
Machine model is an identity input, not the full specification
A model can narrow the application, but the actual interface, set arrangement and controlled dimensions still need verification before production release.
